Today was the first nigth of frost here in Brampton. Early in the morning, all the cars were white, covered with thin ice. The street was ever so quiet, the birds weren't singing, the new day was still dark, the trees were not dancing in the wind. and I couldn't smell the flowers (and what's new?). There was silence, cold and darkness, but I felt peace...
There is a great mistery in a winter morning. Something that I can't quite explain. A feeling of grieving and at the same time, a feeling of hope, a certainty of a better tomorrow. As I watched the empty icy cars on the street I thougth of the spring. The flowers blooming, the children running, (the cars parked in front of my driveway as I waited patiently for them to move), the sun shinning as you hit the door. The breeze smelling like fresh rain, dirt, and sweet perfume! I just absolutely love the spring! But there is nothing like a cold winter morning... I like winter because it reminds me that there is a God in heaven, Who is in control of all things. Sometimes in life we go through periods of just plain silence, and everything around you seems to be dead, or frozen. It is so dark, and quiet, and you almost feel like you are all alone in the world. But the winter passes, and then comes the spring and everything that was apparently dead comes back to life, but only stronger then before. The lack of all the things we enjoy in the other seasons, only make us appreciate them even more, when the rigth time comes.
The winter is so harsh, and sometimes it seems soooooooooo LONG! It is a time for the earth to be replenished, and for the animals to rest, and more than anything it can be a great season, if you learn to appreciate it. There are lots of things to do, and the scenery is absolutely beautiful.
So here it is, an optimistic beggining of the new season, waiting on the Lord for renewal, patience and an open heart to learn to appreciate all things.
Genesis 8:22 "As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease."
